Marwan is Principal Scientist and Research Lead with, and formerly (acting) Director of, Cloudflare's Research team. He is focussed on architectures, protocols, and technology for the Internet. Marwan is also a professor of computer science at the University of St Andrews (UK), where he was the Director of Post-graduate Studies. In 2013 Marwan co-founded and is a director of HUBS c.i.c., a community cooperative backhaul ISP awarded for technical innovation and sustainability by the European Commission. His current research interests lie in secure, private, and reliable network protocols, and measurement in next generation edge networks. He is the recipient of multiple teaching and supervisorial honours, an author on numerous peer-review publications and patents, the recipient of two best paper awards (IEEE and PETS), and a Senior Member of both the IEEE and the ACM.
